Copper Withdrawal - Supporting You Through the Isle of Man's Move to Fibre
The Isle of Man's broadband network is changing
Soon the Island’s legacy copper network will be withdrawn as part of the National Broadband Plan, with customers gradually moving to faster, more reliable fibre broadband services.
If you’ve received a letter or email from Noventre about the copper withdrawal, you’re in the right place.
This page explains what the changes mean, what you need to do and where to go if you need additional support.
What’s happening?
The Isle of Man is replacing its ageing copper broadband network with a modern fibre network.
Customers are being contacted in phases based on where they live or work and when their area is scheduled for withdrawal.
If your property is included in the current programme, we’ll contact you well in advance and guide you through the process.
What does this mean for me?
If your broadband service currently uses the copper network, you’ll eventually need to move to a fibre service.
Your current service will not be switched off as part of the withdrawal programme.
However, once the withdrawal date for your area has passed, any faults affecting services delivered over the copper network will no longer be supported or repaired.
To avoid future disruption, we recommend moving to fibre before the withdrawal date for your area.
The good news
For customers included in the current phase:
- Your property only requires a standard fibre installation.
- No additional groundwork is required.
- Standard installation and connection are currently provided free of charge when you choose one of our 36-month fibre broadband packages.
- Our team will support you throughout the process.
Your journey
We’ll contact you at key points before your area’s withdrawal date to make sure you have plenty of notice and time to plan.
Typically, you’ll hear from us:
- Around 12 months before withdrawal
- Around 6 months before withdrawal
- Around 3 months before withdrawal
- Around 1 month before withdrawal
Each communication will explain what happens next and remind you of the support available.
Do you need additional support?
We understand that every customer is different.
Some customers may need a little more time or support to complete their move to fibre.
You may qualify for a supported journey if you:
- use telecare, personal alarms or other connected care devices
- rely on equipment connected to your current telephone or broadband service
- need additional support because of age, disability or a medical condition
- require permission from a landlord or managing agent before installation can take place
- need additional installation work at your property
- have concerns about installation costs or accessibility
- have specific business or technical requirements
These are examples rather than a complete list.
If you think your circumstances mean you may need additional support, please let us know as early as possible
Broadband Assurance and Enhanced Support
Some customers may benefit from additional service options that provide greater reassurance and support.
These include Broadband Assurance and enhanced service level options, which may be particularly suitable for customers who rely heavily on their broadband connection at home or for business.
If you’d like to understand which options are available for your property, our team will be happy to talk you through them.
